If you go to Narrative Coffee you won’t be served. You’ll be hosted. Many coffee shops aim to be the “neighborhood hangout,” but Narrative is a place where people from the region flock. Seattle coffee aficionados hip to Panamanian Geisha beans rub shoulders with locals just looking for a juicy cup of pourover coffee in this airy, beautiful space.
Located in the heart of downtown Everett, Washington, Narrative is a love letter to the city’s postindustrial infrastructure. It’s an investment in a community that has struggled for decades to recover from closing mills.
The fully-remodeled cafe fills a building from the early 20th century with a brand new bar and furniture to compliment the brick wall and its exposed-rafter bones.
Everett is in the midst of a revival; a renaissance of art and restaurants. More independent businesses are filling up vacant storefronts in old buildings.
Maxwell Mooney takes exception to the phrase “That’s pretty good...for Everett.” He excels on the national and international coffee stage, both in the quality of his cafe as well as his participation in coffee competitions.
How well is Narrative Coffee doing? After opening in the summer of 2017, it earned an industry award for “Best Cafe in the World” from coffee media leader Sprudge.com.
The best cafe in the world happens to be in this former PNW mill town? Like so many elements of the Everett Renaissance, it’s hard to believe, but true. This city is worth visiting. The air in this coastal community is electric with ideas.
Narrative Coffee and Maxwell Mooney are proof that with enough hard work, you can rewrite your own story.
Try their coffee for yourself and see what the hype is about.
