Edmonds Day Trip
With abundant art and delicious food, downtown Edmonds is the perfect place to spend a day.
I spent a clear but chilly winter day exploring everything Edmonds has to offer, from perfectly brewed coffee and gorgeous Puget Sound views to public art and deliciously fresh fish tacos.
I started my morning with the most important part of the day: coffee. I grabbed a latte and a sea salt chocolate rye cookie from Walnut Street Coffee. The cookie was chewy with a delicious balance of salty and sweet, the perfect pairing for the latte. Hands wrapped tightly around the coffee for warmth, I walked down to the Edmonds waterfront.
Brackett’s Landing Park, right next to the Edmonds ferry terminal, offers stunning views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The park is the ideal place to sit and just observe. I watched ferries come and go, trains pass by, SCUBA divers gear up to explore the Edmonds Underwater Park, bald eagles fly overhead… it was the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee with a view.
After finishing up my coffee, I made the short walk over to the Cascadia Art Museum. The museum features both permanent and rotating exhibits showcasing the work of local Pacific Northwest artists. The highlight of my visit was an exhibit that explored the work of local photographer Chao-Chen Yang. The museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in local art.
Leaving the museum, I walked up the hill to the heart of downtown Edmonds. I was struck by the amount of art in this small town. Galleries, art shops, and public art abound. I used this handy map to explore the town’s public art. Along the way, I stepped into ARTspot Edmonds, an art store offering art classes for children and adults. Plan a visit to stock up on art supplies and meet other local art enthusiasts!
I continued my exploration of downtown Edmonds with a visit to Edmonds Bookshop, a cozy local bookstore in the center of town. The shelves are filled with books accompanied by handwritten recommendation notes from staff. I picked up a good new book and headed back outside in search of lunch.
Just around the corner, I found MARKET Edmonds, a walk-up counter selling fresh crab, lobster, fish, shrimp, and more. Their PNW crab roll looked delicious, but I decided on their tacos. I couldn’t choose between shrimp and rockfish, so I got one of each! Corn tortillas, fresh mango salsa, queso fresco, cilantro sauce, and the freshest fish and shrimp. It was melt-in-your-mouth good.
Good coffee, art, books, fresh seafood…a perfect Pacific Northwest day in Edmonds.
