Mukilteo: a Basecamp for Northwest Adventure
When you roll (or float, or fly) into Mukilteo, it’s time to choose your own adventure. Which kind of adventure will you pick? Are you into epic road trips? A foray into aerospace technology? Maybe the best kind of adventure is where you don’t go anywhere! If you’re looking for a hub and jumping-off point for fun, this little city by the sea is a great place to start.
Washington State road trip adventure
The geography of our state has it all: islands, farmland, forests, mountains, prairie, desert, lakes, waterfalls, rivers, estuaries and the shoreline. Experience it all in one go with the Cascade Loop – a 440-mile round trip that starts and ends in Mukilteo.
Lodge on the water at Silver Cloud Inn in Mukilteo. It’s literally built on pilings above the waves of the Puget Sound. From the inn, it’s a few blocks to the Mukilteo ferry terminal, which will take you to Whidbey Island. Follow the signs for the Cascade Loop and you’re in for an amazing road trip.

Not big on cars? We get you. Enjoy car-free travel on Whidbey Island and up to Deception Pass. Simply bring your bicycle on to the ferry and depart on the other side. Whidbey makes for a lovely day of scenic cycling. Come back to Mukilteo and get some food afterward – you'll be hungry!

Nautical adventure – a day on the shore – and under the waves!
Have we talked about the ferry terminal enough? Nope! It’s the perfect place for a PNW ferry adventure.
Start your day by tasting the bounty of the sea with a brunch at Ivar’s. Kayak, canoe, or beachcomb at Edgewater Beach: a scenic stretch of coast made romantic by the comings and goings of ferries and trains. If you’re a certified diver, you can also enjoy the SCUBA park at the T-shape pier by Ivar’s.
There’s also really something to be said for plain ol’ swimming in Puget Sound or chilling on driftwood. Perfection.
Aviation adventure – PAE and Future of Flight
Are you an aviation buff? Get your Kitty Hawk and Apollo 1 on at the Future of Flight, Boeing’s celebration of aerospace technology past present, and future. Enjoy family-friendly interactive exhibits filled with STEM activities for young minds: step inside a space capsule, marvel at the scope and size of a 747 jet, fly a drone, or build a robot.
The Future of Flight is also the jumping-off point for the Boeing Factory Tour: a structured trip through the largest building in the world by volume. See where the magic happens as planes roll through the assembly line.
Love Snohomish County? How can you not! Make it an intra-county road trip adventure: start at the sea and make it to the summit in just over an hour. That’s what we’ve got here. Book your trip today!
