Sign Me UpFor years, friends and family of Katherine Hillmann urged her to follow her dreams and start baking for a living. She took their advice and in 2017, South Fork Baking Co was born. Named for the south fork of the Stillaguamish River where Katherine’s baking career started, South Fork is now an Everett staple for baked delights and specialty custom cakes.
Katherine is about to realize another of her dreams: taking South Fork to the next level. After a few years operating out of a wholesale kitchen located at Cafe Diedrich, and after nearly 2 years of delays, South Fork Baking Co will open their first retail location on the Everett Waterfront. It has been a long, slow road but Katherine has had patience and determination, facing challenges head-on with grace and humor.
Once the building is complete and Katherine takes possession of her space, South Fork will boast a large, dog-friendly patio overlooking the Everett Marina, along with indoor seating. Guests will be able to purchase South Fork’s signature scratch-made baked goods, espresso drinks, and sandwiches for breakfast or lunch, all made with locally-sourced ingredients.
Shop hours will be fairly standard for a bakery, but Katherine has plans to offer summertime events with extended hours and special limited menus. Eventually she will add canned and bottled beer and wine for guests to enjoy at the end of a long summer day. Or at the beginning of one, with cake. Katherine doesn’t judge. You will also be able to pick up a grab-and-go party cake for those last-minute events.
Keep a look out for a soft opening planned for the last week of June 2023, with a grand opening set for early July. In the meantime, you can still find South Fork goodies at local coffee stands and shops.
