The Snackin Shack is a place where childhood fantasies come to life. In a garage in an unassuming alley in downtown Everett, the museum features walls lined with seemingly endless unusual treats, from Spicy Cinnamon Toast Crunch to Tabasco Bugles and Twinkies Candy Canes. During my recent visit, I was awed by the floor-to-ceiling displays of limited edition chips, candy, cereal, soda, snacking memorabilia, and more.

The museum, the first of its kind, was opened in 2023 by Bremerton-born Jaxen “Snacks” McInnis. It all began with his love of collecting, which started when he was a child. “There wasn’t a time when I wasn’t collecting something,” he says.

As an adult, Jaxen's passion for collecting took a new direction when Taco Bell released the Starburst Freeze, a drink inspired by his favorite candy. Eager to own a piece of Taco Bell history, Jaxen obtained one of the promotional posters for the drink. This marked the beginning of his fast food sign collection.

But Jaxen didn’t stop with signs. Soon, he expanded his collection to include all things snacks. Before long, he had to move his car out of his garage to make room for his growing collection of signs, snacks, and memorabilia. Passersby began noticing his collection, sparking the idea of reaching a wider audience with his snacks.

With all the attention his growing snack collection was receiving, Jaxen recognized an opportunity to establish the world’s first snack museum. He remembers the day clearly. “March 15, 20233,” he responded without hesitation when I asked him when the idea began. Just six months later, on Halloween 2023, he officially opened the museum in his garage.

“Everybody loves snacks,” says Jaxen, explaining his decision to open the museum. Recognizing the universal appeal of snacks, Jaxen wanted to create a welcoming space for people from all backgrounds. “The Snackin Shack is for everybody,” he emphasizes, highlighting that the museum is open to all, regardless of their identity. Jaxen, known for his friendly demeanor, embodies his mission of inclusivity.

The museum is open four days a week, from Thursday to Sunday, from Noon to 4 PM. Admission is free for everyone. If you'd like to take home a piece of snacking history, Jaxen offers mystery snack bags and boxes filled with various unique snacks and drinks. For those who cannot visit in person, mystery snack boxes are also available for purchase online!
