North Mountain Lookout
The North Mountain Lookout is located just north of Darrington, Washington and is reached via the North Mountain Road, also called Forest Service Road #2810. The road winds 11.5 miles to the lookout perched at 3,809 feet. The lookout once guarded the North Fork Stillaguamish Valley from forest fires. While its role in fire management has diminished, the views from atop have not. They are as spectacular as ever, as the lookout is surrounded by the high peaks of the Stillaguamish and Sauk River valleys of the North Cascade Mountain range.
Built in 1965, North Mountain Lookout has been restored to its original condition. Of the original 656 fire lookouts in Washington, North Mountain is one of less than a hundred remaining. It is the only rentable tower you can drive to! Local artisans have furnished the tower with period pieces. The tower also sports an insulated lightning stool and a working Coleman stove. Enjoy 360-degree views of the Cascade Range while reliving a piece of history!
The North Mountain Lookout is an active vacation rental during the summer months. Visit website for more information and to book.
