SKAGIT VALLEY ARTISTS
EDMONDS, WA – In the month of February, Gallery North will be showcasing Mount Vernon artists, Melissa Ballanger and Kathy Boussard in a combined show, “A Floral Affair.” The exhibit features a wide array of functional and decorative fused-glass art and abstract oil floral paintings in a symbiotic show from February 1-29.
Melissa Ballenger, a seasoned artist, uses her world travels as inspiration for much of her glass art. The vivid colors of diverse cultures are projected in her breath-taking pieces, which are like ‘eye candy’ for the viewer. Although her extraordinary compositions have been added to numerous collections around the world, she is dedicated to displaying her artistry within her community and in her private gallery as well as sharing her expert techniques in her Skagit Valley studio.
As an abstract painter, Kathy Boussard uses her spontaneity to create an emotional experience for the viewer – from passionate to nostalgic. Her paintings excel in the dynamics of weaving vibrant hues and prominent strokes into floral artworks using a strong and intense palette. She is distinguished by incorporating an impasto technique applying thick paint that appears to be coming out of the canvas.
The exhibit is open daily at Gallery North with an artists’ reception on Saturday, February 8 from 1-4 pm. Art Walk will be Thursday, February 20 from 5 – 8 pm. These events are open to the public so come meet the artists and enjoy refreshments.
