Lou Stevenson

Stevenson is a 1964 Cascade High (CHS) graduate where, as a student athlete, he was a force and achieved at a high level in football, basketball, and baseball. As a senior, he was named to the All-State Baseball Team.

As a student leader, Lou excelled on and off the field. He was Senior Class President. His teammates voted him Most Inspirational in football and basketball. His graduating class honored him Most Athletic. He was in the Honor Society and a recipient of the Football Scholastic Award. Also during his senior season, he was awarded the 1964 Walsh-Platt Award as Everett School District’s Athlete of the Year. In later years, he was named to CHS’s 1960s All-Decade Football Team and inducted into the CHS Sports Hall of Fame. Amazingly, he is also in the Hall of Fame of Everett High (Coach), the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association (Coach) and at Seattle University (team member).

Lou attended Seattle University (S.U.) on a basketball and baseball scholarship. He played basketball one year and baseball four years including being on the 1968 team that in 2016 was inducted into the S.U. Athletics Hall of Fame. While at S.U., Lou played summer semi-pro baseball with the Cheney Studs who won the Western International League championships in 1967 & 1968 and placed 2nd in the National Tournament. “Once A Stud, Always a Stud”.

After S.U., he became a teacher and coach for one year at his alma mater, CHS. He then joined the faculty at Everett High where he taught and coached for 32.5 years. He is widely recognized there as a teacher and fourteen-year head baseball coach. Moreover, because of his advanced knowledge and reputation in baseball, Lou also served as part-time area scout for the San Diego Padres.

After retiring from Everett High in January 2001, Everett Parks and Recreation hired Lou to manage its Athletics Division. This was a timely hire as the Phil Johnson Ball Fields complex was being built and Lou’s key role was to maximize daily operations and facilities, and to increase local youth league participation in baseball and softball. In this position, Lou contributed in a wide scope of ways to the county’s sports scene.

Over the years, Lou’s good name and reputation, sport knowledge, leadership skills, and the ongoing support of his wife, Jan, he was able to make many significant and long-lasting contributions to the county’s youth, sports and beyond.
