Miller, a 1975 graduate of Everett High and 1982 graduate of Western Washington University, began water skiing at age 6. By age 17, he'd taught himself to water ski barefoot. In 1982 Steve began teaching water skiing and performing in water ski shows for Club Med in the Carribean. Showcased were barefoot skiing, jumping, and tricks including high flying departures from small buildings. Steve's career with Club Med until 1991 took him throughout the Carribean, Bahamas, Tahiti, and Greece. He then returned home to Lake Stevens with his wife Dru and focused on competitive water skiing. He continued teaching as an instructor for Lake Stevens Water Ski and Wakeboard Club.

By 1997 Steve qualified for Nationals in slalom. Within 2 more years his improved skills in jump and trick skiing qualified him to compete nationally in all 3 water ski disciplines. His next goal became the National Overall Crown. As he moved up the national age group rankings, he won titles in all the Western Regional Championships, 1 National jump title and 4 National Overall titles. Additional highlights of Steve's competitive skiing include:

2016 ranked 1st in the U.S. for Overall Men, 60+. Frequently ranked in top 10 in the world over the last decade and as high as 2nd overall in the World Age Group Ranking list.

Undefeated for 13 years except when injuries prevented him from competing. A severe crash during the preliminary round of jumping knocked him out of the 2016 World Overall competitions.

2014 World's: Overall Bronze and 4th in Jump (Men's 55+).

2012 World Overall Gold Medal Team winner as a team member of 2012 USA World Championship 35+ water ski team. Steve's points earned in 55+ slalom, jump and trick significantly added to team's total toward the win.

Since 2003, he has won 37 Regional, National and World medals (19 of them, 1st place).

Steve and Dru continue to reside in Lake Stevens. He is a 3rd generation owner of American Distributing propane and heating oil company. Steve is an active member in Everett Rotary, the YMCA, and Boys and Girls Club of Lake Stevens.
