Lydia Robison -Jackson High School Track & Field - Class of 2020

page image

Lydia Robison is a graduating senior at Jackson High School with a distinguished athletic and academic career.

Lydia has participated in athletics for most of her life competing on both club volleyball and club softball teams for numerous years. While at Jackson she played varsity volleyball for two years and competed in Track and Field for four. While being an outstanding player in softball and volleyball she has excelled in the throwing events of Track and Field. Lydia holds numerous records at Jackson in the discus and ranks in the top 10 ten all time in both the shot put and javelin. She qualified and competed at State in both the javelin (finishing 14th) and discus (finishing on the podium in 7th) her Junior year. This was disappointing to her as she sets high standards for herself and felt she did not perform up to those standards. One week later she finished first in the discus at the Pacific Northwest Junior Olympics, ironically at the same facility as the State meet. Her throw qualified for the Junior Olympic Regionals, was a personal best, Jackson School record and would have placed her 2nd at the State meet. Lydia has always worked hard, but increased her efforts with her goal of a State Championship in the discus. In the off season, Lydia drove to Portland three times a week to work with Super Throwers, a throwing club with many elite High School throwers from around the Washington and Oregon regions. Her throw last summer put her as the leading 4A female discus thrower in the State and with her dedication and off season work made her the favorite for this season's State Discus Champion. Lydia also competed in the hammer, which is not an officially sanctioned WIAA event, but finished 5th across all classifications at the 19th Annual Washington State Hammer Championships her Junior year.

In addition, Lydia competed in the indoor season (also not a sanctioned WIAA program) her senior season. Her marks in the weight throw qualified her for the Emerging Elite category at the New Balance High School Indoor National Meet, which unfortunately was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lydia is also an exceptional student with a 3.97 GPA at Jackson. She has also been in the Running Start program her Senior year. Lydia's athletic abilities in both the discus & hammer and her academic achievements have earned her a scholarship to Utah State University to compete on the Track and Field team while studying in the Veterinary program.
