The Mountain Loop Highway is about as “far out” into the PNW wilderness as you can get on four wheels. Expect to see breathtaking beauty. This route is also known as the Mountain Loop Scenic Byway. Byway as in, you don’t really need to go there. And maybe that’s the whole point: it’s out there just to be enjoyed. A few can't miss stops along the way are- Mt Pilchuck, the Big Four Ice Caves, and the ghost town of Monte Cristo.
