Edmonds Oyster Fest is Back!
These tide-to-table treasures will have you shucking and slurping the briniest bivalves this side of the Salish Sea.
If you want to learn to eat like a local Pacific Northwesterner, you’d probably best develop a taste for briny bivalves. Local oysters are everything here. Harvested from the shores of Puget Sound and served up in local restaurants, the procurement and curation of fine oysters is not so much a farm-to-table as tide-to-table art.
Ah, the joy of oysters! It’s hard to explain the thrill of eating these salty treats on the half shell. You can eat them with a lemon slice, cocktail sauce, or a zip of Tabasco. Some say that eating raw shellfish is a way of absorbing the sea creatures’ life force.
Indeed, folks attribute many health benefits to eating oysters – these little guys aid in weight loss, increase bone strength, improve heart health, boost immunity, aid in wound healing, and promote healthy growth.
But mostly oysters just taste as delicious as the sea itself, and they embody the characteristics of Pacific Northwest natives: they are briny, fresh, and a tiny bit gritty.
This year Edmonds Oyster Fest returns from March 7-16, Monday through Sunday. Consider that your oyster-slurping window.
There are five restaurants participating in the event. Each eatery offers a combo of an oyster special made with Taylor Shellfish Oysters, paired with a glass of sauvignon blanc courtesy of Mark Ryan Winery.
Participating locations include MARKET Edmonds, Bar Dojo, Salt & Iron, Fire & The Feast, and SanKai Sushi.
And, yes, you can win a prize!
There’s also a punch card system: visit three of the five locations and get a punch, then take your card to MARKET in Edmonds to earn a gift card to any of the participating restaurants (there are only 100 prizes, and the punch cards must be turned in between March 16 and March 31).
So, if you want to taste the finest oysters this side of the Salish Sea (and compliment them with fine wine), you know where to go and what to do. Swim, sail, or take a ferry ride over to Edmonds, Washington to slurp down all of the festivities and claim your prize! Shucks.
The Annual Edmonds Oyster Festival!
March 7th- March 16th.*
*Be sure to double-check each restaurant’s hours before visiting as hours vary by location.
