This picturesque community was first established as a night camp for the wagon route linking the Monte Cristo mines to the Puget Sound area.

Darrington is nestled at the base of the rugged North Cascade Mountains and is enclosed and protected by mountain barriers. Glacier Peak (elevation 10,541 feet), the highest point in Snohomish County, lies to the southeast.

White water rafting on the Sauk and Stillaguamish rivers surrounding Darrington provides exciting summer and fall recreation. Hiking is also popular near Whitehorse Mountain (elevation 6,303 feet), the site of one of the lowest elevation glaciers in the lower 48 states, an exceptional short hike from town.

Visitors will enjoy the legendary Darrington Bluegrass Festival and Timberbowl Rodeo. The Bluegrass Festival is held the 3rd weekend of July; this 3-day event draws 5,000 fans and features world-renowned acts as well as a variety of regional talent. The Timberbowl Rodeo is celebrated on the fourth weekend of June; a Professional Western Rodeo Association sanctioned rodeo.
